The Retailer Doesn’t Determine Distribution and Transmission Fees
Distribution and transmission fees are set by the distribution company in your area. There is only one designated distribution company for each service within a given area (i.e. ATCO Gas for most of Alberta, Epcor for electricity in Edmonton and Enmax for electricity in Calgary). When you switch to Regional Energy that portion of your bill will remain the same. However, the retailer charges will change. Retailer charges are the cost of the actual electricity and natural gas along with the monthly admin fees. Although the distribution and transmission fees will remain the same we can still help customers out by getting them great energy rates.
Whether you are researching Calgary electricity companies, Edmonton electricity companies or providers for another area it is important to know that the Alberta Utilities Commission regulates distribution rates for all areas. However, if you are located in a smaller town that is part of an REA (rural electrification association) then distribution rates are either approved by the local town council or by boards of directors who sit on on the REA.
